How to use Instagram for connection and growth | Montana Outdoor Photography for Lovers

I just need to start off by saying that I definitely don't have my Instagram game figured out nor do I have thousands of followers. I say all this because I have found connection and I've seen slow growth with the way I've approached the app. It has become a place where I've made real life friends. I've found real connection and I want you to do that as well. Here is how to use Instagram for connection and growth and my journey through the app.

When I moved to a new town, I wasn't completely sure how to start making connections with people. Then I realized I had an amazing tool at my disposal, Instagram. I wanted to connect with other local photographers, so I started searching hashtags and geotags. I got brave enough and started messaging a few of them. Now, I'm becoming great friends with one and we are planning out business things together. This is just a little encouragement before I get down to the how.

How to use Instagram for connection and growth

  1. Show up in your stories. It's the best way to show your friends who you really are. Be authentic there. It's one of the best ways for your followers and everyone to get to know you. And don't get all dressed up just to pop on there. Show up when you are in your pj's and makeup free. Be real.

  2. Engage with others posts. Period. If you want people to engage with you, then you need to engage with others! This is also where you can take the time to find other people. You never know where an Instagram friendship might go.

  3. Call to Action! Every time you post, make a call to action. Get your followers to double click or comment. Invite them to take that next step. This helps Instagram to know that your followers care about your content. How do you get them to care...

  4. SERVE THEM!!! Serve your followers. Don't just post blind unthoughtful captions. Think through your captions. Give them content that shares who you are. Content that uplifts and offers support. Make sure you aren't complaining, but providing help to those following you. Make your words powerful.

  5. Consistency! Post and be consistent friends! If you aren't ever posting or sharing stories, than how you are you supposed to grow and connect with others? You can't! So be there for them. Show up daily or every other day. Whatever works for you, just be there and do it consistantly.

I've been doing these things constantly for a few months now and I have seen slow growth, but growth nonetheless. And I'm am completely ok with the fact that I don't have thousands of followers because I am showing up. I am using the app to connect with other vendors and people.

The last thing that you need to remember is that your numbers do not define you! At the time of me writing this, I have less than 500 followers on Instagram. I care about the people that follow me. And I want to show up and be there for them. I believe these people are there because they care about me as well. I share my heart with them and they listen. That is what matters. That is why I keep showing up.

I can't wait to connect with you! Please go give me a follow on the gram @jessicapowellphoto and drop me a message! I'd love to connect with you and support you! Or connect with me over at my contact page! I can't wait to hear from you!
