5 Tips for Eloping in Glacier National Park

Trying to figure out where to begin when it comes to planning an elopement can be difficult, then you through something in it like Glacier National Park and it adds a lot more. It doesn’t have to be stressful or hard. I’ve written out 5 tips to help make your planning in Glacier that much easier.

Book Your Travel Right Away

If you are choosing to elope in Glacier chances are you are wanting to during the peak summer months when access to Going to the Sun Road is open. Guess what? Everyone else is also booking their Glacier trips this time of year. Once you nail down when you are going, book everything as soon as you can. And don’t worry, there are ways to avoid the crazy crowds. Keep reading.

Choose a Weekday

Wanting to avoid those crowds? Choose a weekday to elope. I suggest eloping in Glacier Tuesday-Thursday. It avoids all the extra travelers that come for a long weekend. Weekends are also when more locals are trying to get into the park. The other way to escape the crowds is to have your elopement at sunrise or sunset. Most people won’t get up for that early summer sunrise nor will they stay late in the park for the sunset. Summer days are long and people get hungry. You’ll still see people at most locations, but there will be less and then tend to stay away from a couple in their wedding attire.

Have a backup option

Weather in Glacier can be unpredictable. Unfortunately, this means that if you choose to have your elopement somewhere along the Going to the Sun Road, it could close unexpectedly due to snow up on Logan Pass. This is especially something to be aware of towards the end of the summer when the nights are getting colder. Rocks and debris tend to line the road making travel unsafe. Don’t worry though, there are so many more fantastic options that will not disappoint. It is good to pick out one of those just in case. Having a backup plan helps you to not feel defeated or disappointed on the day of if you have to change your plans.

Pick a photographer that knows what is going on in the park

I always say this, but first it is important that you connect with your photographer. They are the vendor that is right by your side following you around for the day. You want to be like friends. You want to feel comfortable with them and enjoy it. Make sure that photographer knows what to do in Glacier from the permits to the new ticket system to timeline planning in the park. The more information the photographer gives you, the more you know they understand what they are doing. Don’t be afraid to ask all the questions. If your photographer doesn’t know, a good one will research for you and find the answer.

Add extra travel time in your timeline

Glacier traffic can be unpredictable much like the weather. A good timeline will have wiggle room in the travel and elsewhere to make your day smooth and not stressful. Heck, if you get somewhere early, it’s just more time for pictures, snuggles, looking at creation, a more relaxing hike and the list goes on. Speed limits are low and people slow down or stop to look at wildlife. You can’t predict it, so add the time!

Now, go knock your planning out of the park! Or maybe in the park in this case. I can’t wait to help you plan your perfect Glacier Elopement. Let’s get started!
