Finding Community | Portraits of Another Photographer

Where to begin

Ever since I have moved to The Dalles, Oregon, I have had this yearning to be apart of a creative community. In fact, I was searching for community in all areas of my life. I just wanted to make a connection with others and to start developing new relationships in a new town. I love meeting new people, but that doesn't mean it is always easy finding community. Where do you even begin in a new town?

Finding community

I have been struggling with this for over a year now. I did not start building my business up again until I had been here for over six months. I was tired of waiting for life to calm down. I was tired of waiting for people to magically find me. Seriously Jess, if you aren't putting yourself out there, how do you ever expect to find people? This fall I finally started getting more involved around my community. I met another photographer, so we naturally wanted to meet up with each other. We didn't want to compete with each other, but to talk about the struggles of finding new clients in a new area. We decided that we needed to go out and do a session.

Chilly mornings

"Want to take pictures of each other?", I asked. Within a week, we were out at a beautiful location taking turns photographing each other. It was a chilly morning which neither of us had fully prepared for. Our hands were cold, our arms were cold and most importantly our fingers. You know those things that you need to use to take a photo? We felt awkward being on that side of the camera and laughed as we thought about how our clients felt. Soon we were clicking away and enjoying it all. Being in the moment was a blast and being able to talk with another creative was even more fun.I've enjoyed the time I have had with her getting to know her. Go check out her work over at her website Diamond Heart Photography. Here are my images of her. I hope you enjoying seeing the portraits of Angela and her work as well.
