Ways to be more comfortable in front of the camera

Getting in front of the camera is HARD! It is so easy to hide behind it as the photographer and forget that it can be difficult and nerve RACKING to be on the front end. I've started putting myself in front of the camera a lot more often and it has gotten easier each and every time. With that said, I've been there and I know that it can be weird and uncomfortable. Take a look at this list for ways to be more comfortable in front of the camera and rock your next session.

6 Ways to be More Comfortable in Front of the Camera

  1. Have yourself a drink! Wine, beer, cider, coffee, tea Pick Yo' Poison. Water if you don't like anything. Bahha... But seriously. This is a huge way to loosen up and get comfortable. I love getting together with my couples before a session to have coffee or a drink to get to know each other better. Knowing who is taking your pictures and getting comfortable with them as a person is HUGE to breaking the barriers and getting comfortable.

  2. Look at each other! Forget that the photographer is there and just focus on each other. Don't worry about where to look, if you are focusing on your love, then you will be more comfortable. You will start almost forgetting that the photographer is around and just focusing on each other.

  3. Talk Talk Talk! If your photographer isn't giving you prompts and things to talk about with your love, then just start talking with each other. Remember your favorite date, how you met, what is the thing you want to do most with each other. If you could do anything in the world together, what would it be? Dream big! Talk! Reminisce! But seriously, your photographer should be prompting you.

  4. Music! Dance! Music is a great way to loosen up. We all know this. Also, if you are just the worst dancer like me, then you'll for sure be getting some laughs in when dancing in the middle of nowhere.

  5. Touch each other! This is all about the two of you, so you should be touching each other already. No one likes a stiff board, so sway together, hug, kiss, rub each other's backs, hold hands, touch each other's faces..JUST TOUCH! This also helps you keep the focus on each other.

  6. It's a date! Think of it as a date, just with someone documenting it. You are out there to focus on your love whether you just got engaged or you've been married for years. Your session should be engaging and fun. So have that drink and dance. Spin each other around and have the date of your life. Better yet, take a photographer on your date.
